Whether you’re brand new to gardening or a seasoned professional, you’ll find a home at the Garden.
We use no chemical fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides. Instead, our renters work with materials such as compost, mulch, and natural predators to nurture plants and control pests & disease. We encourage all of our gardeners to learn more about the beneficial bugs & pollinators that we host in Calgary. We also keep a good number of native plants in our Pollinator Garden and create homes for mason bees within the Food Forest. Keeping a healthy ecosystem is very important to us.
Our irrigation system is provided by City Parks and we have 4 spigots spaced throughout the Garden.
There is a substantial compost system which is cared for by all the gardeners & volunteers under the direction of the Compost Committee.
Hoses, tools, and other odds & ends are kept in our nearby Garden Shed.
Within the Garden, you’ll find a Community U-Pick Food Forest full of fruit-bearing trees, shrubs, and vines.
We also keep a number of Community U-Pick vegetable & herb beds, a strawberry bed, and a raspberry patch.
Once ripe, we encourage everyone to taste the bounty out of these shared spaces. Privately rented beds, of course, are off-limits to casual picking.
Our Garden is large and takes a great deal of work to maintain.
Each renter is required to sign up for (unpaid) work shifts to assist with the common chores.
Given that the Garden is entirely volunteer run, this is critical to keeping the Garden operational.
